Third Wedding of Tripleheader Weekend Brought us Back to Jupiter Beach Resort

Windswept beach wedding at Jupiter Beach Resort shot in infrared

So….Sunday rolled around and it was back to the wonderful Jupiter Beach Resort.  Kind of like playing a home game.  Once again, the weather made things interesting, and once again, a last minute decision to proceed outdoors paid off  as the rains stayed south, and the wedding went off without a hitch!  This time our bride did things in the more traditional order, beginning upstairs for some getting ready shots, which really do yield great results when given the time.  Then it was down to the bluff overlooking the ocean where the ceremony took place.  After that some relaxed portraits along the beach and on the boardwalk meant our bride and groom were now ready to party!  For that we handed it off to Hector and Kenny from Kenny Mondo Productions once again, who emceed the event with aplomb.   Interestingly, Miguel had the buffet set up in the grand ballroom, which really lent a wonderful flow to the task, and freed up some room on the terrace.  Much fun was had by all and they danced the night away.   You can see some of our favorites by clicking on the read more icon>>> Read the rest of this entry »

Wedding Two for the Weekend Brings us Back to Morikami Gardens

The Morikami Gardens during a wedding shot in Infrared

Saturday, we got back to the terrific Morikami Gardens in Delray, where Alanna and her staff had the task of making everything fantastic, and came up big once again.  Waiting on the weather till the last minute possible, the call was made to go ahead and set up for their outdoor open air reception set up.  A risky call by our bride to be sure considering the forecast, but ultimately ended up being the right one as the weather held off, and the cool breezes made for a fantastic evening.   Turns out our bride really doesn’t care for flowers, even thought the ones she picked out were fabulously produced by Floral Designs by Yamir.  They bridesmaids bouquets were actually spectacular orchid designs and some of the bride’s bouquet were actually edible!  We did the formals and romantic’s early  on this wedding as well, which at the time seemed like it might actually be a good idea considering the weather.  However the rains held off, and turns out the light was actually better later in the afternoon/evening as it normally is.  Regardless, we were able to make some dramatic images, including some of our new Infrared 2.0 shots that really show off venues like the Morikami.  The DJ actually used vinyl, how cool was that!  And strangely…he never said a word on the mike.  That duty fell on the groomsmen for an interesting twist on emceeing a wedding.  Certainly they had a great time however as the party rocked on into the night.  Sadly some drunk idiot thought it’d be funny to first stick his hand in front of my lens, then later dumped a drink on me from behind.  It takes all kinds I guess.  Luckily none got on our equipment, or he’d be on the hook for some serious charges….This same goof was seen shoving folks around including some of the ladies while dancing, and even lept into the air onto an unsuspecting  guy he outweighed by a good 70lbs;  knocking him violently to the ground (all in good fun right!?!?).  Alcohol is wonderful isn’t it??  Anyway, you can see some of our favorites by clicking on the read more icon>>> Read the rest of this entry »

Triple Header Weekend Kicks off at Jupiter Beach Resort

So, a triple header weekend of weddings, (well really a quad if you count shooting the NHL Stanley Cup Playoff game 7 we shot Thursday night) kicks off at the Jupiter Beach Resort.   If you’ve been watching the weather of late, you’d never have thought we’d get three outdoor weddings in this weekend, but the big guy upstairs was looking out for all our brides this weekend for sure as all of them were rain free!!  Two of our weddings this weekend (this one included) wanted to do the formals and such beforehand.  Something that we dont really recommend.  While it sounds great up front….getting all of them out of the way so you can partake in the cocktail party…in reality it often just adds a boatload of stress to an already stressful day for everyone involved.  For us, it doenst matter so much as we have to take those same set ups either way.  But the stress shows on the subjects.  Everyone typically is frantic, and trying to get it all done before the guests arrive.  The flowers, arch, ceremony site all have to be ready as well as the players and their hair, makeup etc etc.  Friday, they did manage to get all that ready, and there wasn’t really much decorating to be done so the formals ended up working out just fine.  Thing is, all that stress ends up in reality saving mere minutes on the back end.  (our images are all time stamped so you can see exactly how long the formals take every week).  This one took 13 minutes for the formals, and 16 minutes for the romantics on the beach.  That wasn’t rushing, just doing things in an efficient manner, and there really was not that many family members to photograph in the first place.  I only mention it here so that future brides might consider the realistic time it takes to accomplish what we need to do vs. how much stress it adds to the day for everyone involved.  The cocktail party gives your guests something to do while this is all going on (typically), and also gives a break that makes the introductions more meaningful as well. (since you were not just with them 30 seconds earlier at the cocktail party).  Some venues also use this separation time for a more intimate “cocktail” time for just he bridal party and immediate family, which is something I really recommend, as it gives a bit of breathing room before the intros so you can kind of relax amongst your closest friends and family…..after which you are kind of  “on stage” for the next 4 hours or so.    Either way, we have to do the same image taking, so again, its not that big a deal for us.  But we can REALLY see the difference in our brides and grooms after having done it both ways for over 700 weddings. ;-) .

Anyway, after we got Emily and Bo officially wed with Anne Marie Wintercorn, it was back into the Marlin room where Hector for Kenny Mondo Productions took over the emcee’ing and rocked the party for the evening.  The food was amazing as it always is at JBR as well.  Everyone had a great time, and its off to the honeymoon for our couple!  You can see a few of our faves’ here by clicking the read more icon>> Read the rest of this entry »

Hilton Singer Island Wedding A Great Time Once Again

Saturday found us once again at the Hilton Singer Island Resort, which has always been one of our favorite venues.  Featuring the best of both worlds; beach and ballroom all steps from the sea.  They redid the canopy which made it a bit more airy feeling inside.  The threat of rain forced the ceremony up under the canopy, which was really just fine.  It did clear up enough for us to get down on the beach for some fun shots by the ocean.  To see some of our favorites, just click the read more icon>> Read the rest of this entry »

Our First Wedding at the New Borland Center in Palm Beach Gardens

Saturday, was kind of cool, as we got to experience the new Borland Center in Palm Beach Gardens for the first time!  Not something that happens to us very often anymore.   Designed as a church/theater, the Borland Center affords a rather unique set up for weddings.  As you can see in the images below, having an accessible balcony allows some very unique shooting positions for us, as well as lighting opportunities (and challenges).  With ample room for getting ready and a huge kitchen facilities, not to mention the outer room with the grand staircase all add up to a very nice wedding venue and a terrific value as well.    Once again Rachel from Weddings by Rachel officiated, and was the wedding planner behind all of the details.  The other cast members were a who’s who of wedding professionals in the area.  In fact, almost all of them, are members of the renowned Wedding Professionals of the Treasure Coast as well as Treasure Coast Brides Magazine.   The vendor team includes: Weddings by Rachel, Giordanos Floral Creations, Traxx Entertainment, Silver Platter Entrees, Verola Studios Video, Cakes by Michelle, and of course good old us for the pix…hahahah

Just added a video slideshow at bottom too…check it out!

Thursday Wedding On The River at Pietros

Spring training ends…just in time for wedding season to kick into high gear.  Thursday found us shooting on the shores of the intercoastal waterway at Pietro’s Restaurant on Hutchinson Island.  A smaller wedding, yet with all the feel of a larger event, as the warm breezes made the day just perfect.  We were only on scene for the ceremony, and first part of the reception but still created a fantastic collection of images for our bride and groom.  Rachel from Weddings by Rachel, crafted a very special wedding ceremony complete with a ceremonial shell tossing for all the guests to participate in.  After we got them we hitched, it was back into the restaurant where Jimmy Dee gave his show for everyone to enjoy.  Below are some of our favorites, just click the read more button>>> Read the rest of this entry »

Another Destination Treasure Coast Wedding: River Palms Cottages a Huge Hit

So our bride and groom hail from California….and traveled back to the Treasure Coast (where Mom lives), to have their nuptials on the shores of the Indian River at River Palms Cottages in Jensen Beach.  Warm, and breezy as it normally is this time of year, meant a wonderful setting once again for their big day!  Barb from Country Club Florists fashioned some wonderful creations with her flowers, and Betty from Sweet Tiers had a super colorful wedding cake that helped set the mood for the tropical evening.  Once the ceremony was done, we turned things over to the guys from The Entertainment Connections Premier DJ’s who rocked the party so hard it went overtime for 2 extra hours!!  Check out the pix by clicking the read more tab>>> Read the rest of this entry »

Spring Wedding at Indian Riverside Park

A cool Infrared Image captured under the old oak tree at IRSP

Saturday once again found us at Indian Riverside Park in Jensen Beach for a great springtime wedding reception.  Actually we started earlier of course with the ceremony at St Marten DePorres church where they tied the knot with Father Wren, and old favorite of ours;  then it was off to the park.   Once at the reception DJ Boz (Josh) from The Entertainment Connections Premier DJ’s took over and rocked the party all night long!  Then the bride and groom boarded a boat for their bon voyage to the future!  Very cool indeed.

Just added a video slideshow at bottom too…check it out!

Skin Retouching: BCI’s Philosopy

So…..we had a conversation with a student regarding how much skin retouching is enough, so we thought we’d share our thoughts on the subject.  Commonly, you find photographers very heavy handed in their application of skin smoothing.  Often so much so that the person no longer even appears human…or certainly not anything close to realistic.  That’s fine, but totally not the look we are trying to achieve.  We advocate, teach, and provide a much more deftly wielded approach to photo retouching.  It is our belief that you shouldn’t really be able to immediately tell anything has been done.  Below you will see examples of what we mean.  While both have been touched up, either would appear “untouched” were the original not be shown adjacent to it.  That…is the idea.  Help, but don’t overwhelm.  Same with any digital techniques really…its simply too easy to go too far and lose the whole intent.

Obviously these two girls didnt reatlly need any “help” whatsoever, but I think both would prefer the after version, don’t you?  Both final results  look natural.

Sunday Jupiter Beach Resort, the calm after the storm was Amazing!!

So a huge cold front roared thru Sunday morning, and everyone was thinking uh-oh for todays wedding….but alas, it zipped out of here as quickly as it zoomed in, and what was left was a glorious cool, breezy afternoon which made Brook and Lane’s wedding on the bluff at Jupiter Beach Resort simply wonderful!!  Rachel from Weddings bby Rachel got em married off in style, and then after some quick beach shots, we turned em over to DJ Lou from Paragon Entertainment, who has never been better!  Rocking the party till the lights came on!!  Ralph from Giordano’s Floral Creations had the room looking quite amazing with some fantastic Cala Lilly centerpieces that were all pin spotted to highlight the room and to be sure, every detail was perfect for the whole evening!  Check out some of our faves  and even a cool time lapse video of the ceremony by clicking the read more button>>>> Read the rest of this entry »

Harbour Ridge Wedding Sets New Standards

We’ve shot at Harbour Ridge Yacht and CC many many times. However, this time, was something extra special. Actually, the special part began at the brides father’s home, where we had a simply fantastic set of pre shots taken before we zoomed over to the Church in Palm City. Even there, we raised the bar for ourselves a bit, partly due to them allowing us to shoot from the balcony overlooking the ceremony. Then it was off to Harbour Ridge, where Theresa and Kristin had everything already set for a fantastic evening. This time, in addition to what we normally do, we had enough time to allow us to venture out onto the course for a very relaxing set of images by the creek. Normally we have a grand total of 15 minutes to go “make our magic”, but this time we had carte blanche! Once we finished that, we turned things over to the band Heatwave, who did an amazing job. Rarely have I seen a band do this great a job, they were completely over the top all night long. Jupiter Beach Resort Wedding on the Bluff

Once again we found ourselves at the Jupiter Beach Resort for Jennifer and Anthony’s wedding day celebration.   Despite quite a healthy wind, the bluffs provided a perfect amount of shelter, and it was actually quite comfortable.  DJ Jerry from Kenny Mondo productions took care of the emcee duties in his usual great manner, and the folks partied all night long.  See more of our favorite pix by clicking on the read more tab >>>> Read the rest of this entry »
